When you get to The Appleton Tower, report to reception on the sixth floor. They will let you in through the security doors into level 6.
Get off at Edinburgh Waverley station. From there, it's 10 minutes walk to Appleton Tower (refer to this map), or you can take a taxi. Ask the driver for the Appleton Tower, Crichton Street.
From Edinburgh airport, you can take the city shuttle bus (number 100) from directly outside the terminal to the Waverley train station (the last stop on the route). Tickets for the bus can be purchased at the stop outside the terminal, or on the bus itself -- they are 5 pounds for an open return, or 3 pounds for a single ticket. The journey takes around 25 minutes. From the Waverley station, follow the `arriving by train' instructions above.
An alternative is to take a taxi directly from the airport, which will cost about 20 pounds.
Parking in Edinburgh is a pain at the best of times. For a short stay, there are spaces with `pay and display' parking meters in many of the surrounding roads, such as Buccleuch Place. These can be quite expensive for a long stay though. You may want to consider driving to your hotel/accommodation and leaving the car there.
There used to be a large public car park on Crichton Street, but this is now being turned into a new informatics building.
