OntoHappening

For those arriving on Wednesday 10th April for the 2nd UKON Workshop to be held on Thursday 11 April, we will host an OntoHappening in the Royal Dick pub. Fiona McNeill and Andriana Gkaniatsou will be there as hosts from 1930, and anyone can drop in as they like. The idea is that we have an opportunity to meet up, talk ontology, show stuff (such as software) and enjoy some good beer. The bar also serves food. The pub is situated in Summerhall, on the eastern corner of the Meadows (see map on website). You need to go into the main Summerhall building, through and out into the courtyard. The pub is on the other side of the courtyard.

The second UK Ontology Network workshop will take place on Thursday April 11th, 2013 at the University of Edinburgh. A small registration fee will be charged to cover catering.

The aims of this workshop are as follows:

- To enable dissemination of ontology relevant work from across multiple disciplines

- To encourage collaboration and cooperation between different members of UK organisations working in this area

- To help establish a research agenda in ontology and better communication with funding councils and industry needs

Programme

The programme is now available.

Meeting format

The theme of this meeting will be to understand how ontology development and application are being used to address problems, with an emphasise on creating and using open data. The meeting will be designed to maximise dissemination of what's going on, whilst gathering input from attendees. The agenda will have three main parts;

1. A morning of short presentations. Talks will be 5 minutes long followed by a couple of minutes for one or two questions. There will be approximately 18 presentations, with a mix of academics, industry and government speakers.

2. Early afternoon; 10 minute software demonstrations, demonstrating the latest in applications utilising ontologies and in ontology development technology

3. Late afternoon; a "birds-of-a-feather" session where interested parties can get together in loosely formed groups to discuss issues with people of a similar mind/interest.
